Easy steps on how to Install Joomla on your server

Flexible and well coded content management system (CMS), which enables you to create Web sites and strong online applications. We will show you with step by step flow on how you can install Joomla 3.6 to your local or online server by following our few steps as shown below.

Install Joomla 3.6 by following easy steps :

You can install joomla to your local server OR onine server but they should meet the requirement and have following software and configurations :

STEP 1 : Download latest Joomla Full Package to install joomla

Visit Joomla Download Page at ( joomla[dot]org/download[dot]html ) and download the latest version of Joomla Package. We have downloaded the Joomla 3.6.4 for demo.

Above screen will show that you can click on Download button available and download the Joomla. It will provide you with the zip which will have name something like “Joomla_3.6.4-Stable-Full_Package.zip” as per the version downloaded.

STEP 2 : Upload Files to Folder

Unzip the downloaded zip file to the folder where you want to setup the joomla. For the root normally he server have path like “/var/www/public_html/” your joomla folders and files will go to public_html folder for installation.

Above screen show the joomla directory and files available in downloaded zip folder. This all folder and files will go to the server root for installation. You can upload using cPanel, FileZilla FTP Client etc.

STEP 3 : Joomla Installation Process from browser

Once you have uploaded the files to server you can visit the website URL to access the files and folders to install joomla. For example http://www.yourdomainname.com/ this will initiate the installation process.

First you need to provide configuration details as shown in above screen.

  • Select Language : For language we selected English. You can select the language in which you want the site will be. By default it will be English.
  • Administrator Email : Provide email address of admin. All system emails will be sned to this email address.
  • Administrator username : Specify username using which you can login to the administrator area.
  • Administrator Password : Specify the password using which you can login to the administrator area.

Secondly you will have to provide the database details where the joomla will dumb database structure and sample data.

  • Database Type : You can select Mysqli as recommended OR if your server does not support it then you can select Mysql instead.
  • Host Name : Your server Host Name to connect with database. In most of the cases it is “localhost” please check with your hosting provider for correct host name if there is connection issue.
  • Database Username : Provide username of your database.
  • Database Name : Provide name of your database.
  • Database Password : Provide password to connect with database.
  • Table Prefix : Provide prefix for your database tables to keep the table name unique which is used for security purpose.

After this joomla will ask for FTP configuration details.

If you have the FTP configuration details then you can provide the same. This is only required when the server have restriction for extension upload and ask for the FTP connection for uploads and execution.


The last steps where Joomla provide overview of installation and you need to select Install Sample Data Mode.

You can select “Default Sample Data” option to get some data after the joomla is installed else the joomla will have blank template which will be difficult to understand for you. Once you click on default sample data click on Install to proceed further.


Congratulation! You have successfully installed joomla on your server. Click on “Remove Installation Folder” button to remove installation directory to avoid re-install. After this you can click on Site OR Admin link to visit the site or admin part of the website.
